A mission that began in Shanghai.
In 1915, Mr. CHEN Kwang-pu founded The Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank in Shanghai, with a mission "to serve society, to support industry, and to promote international trade".
In 1927, China Travel Service (CTS) was established as a subsidiary. In 1933, the Hong Kong branch of CTS, was reorganised into the Bank's Representative Office in Hong Kong.
In 1934, the Representative Office was upgraded to become the Bank's Hong Kong Branch, offering comprehensive banking services including domestic and international remittances, deposits, loans, and savings.
In 1950, the Hong Kong Branch was locally incorporated and officially renamed "Shanghai Commercial Bank", with Mr. CHEN Kwang-pu serving as its inaugural Chairman. We have since taken root in Hong Kong and expanded our operations to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. Through the Tribank alliance formed in 2000, we have established a strong foothold across China, Southeast Asia, as well as the United Kingdom and the United States.
Throughout our 75 years of history, we have stayed true to our commitment to serving our customers in Hong Kong and internationally and helping them achieve their full potential.
