Criminal syndicates try to lure customers into selling or lending their bank accounts in return for a profit. These “stooge accounts” are subsequently used to receive/launder fraudulent payments or other criminal proceeds.

To better protect your own interests and to fight against financial crimes together, we would like to remind customers of the following:

1: Safeguard account ownership. Avoid selling or lending accounts to other persons.
2: Limit account access. Never allow unauthorized persons to access, operate or control your account.
3: Exercise caution when executing transactions. When asked to process funds from an unknown origin, actively decline and verify the legitimacy through official channels.
4: If you suspect you have been misled into receiving or transferring funds on behalf of others, please contact our Customer Service Hotline at (852) 2818 0282 and report the incident to the Bank and to the Police without delay.
5: Remind families and friends to stay vigilant against deception.

In view of the increasing number of financial crimes that were related to the improper use of bank accounts in recent years, we would like to hereby remind customers of the following tips to better protect your own interests and to fight against financial crimes together:

1. To cooperate with the Bank on carrying out customer due diligence and provide up-to-date account information in due course
2. Do not use personal account for commercial purposes
3. Do not allow unauthorized persons to operate your accounts and conduct transactions for others

Money laundering is an offence by a person who, knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe that any property which, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly represents any person's proceeds of drug trafficking or indictable offence, deals with that property. Upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a HK$ 5,000,000 fine and 14-year imprisonment.

Please stay vigilant of any suspicious emails or SMS and when visiting websites.

The Bank will send you an SMS-based One-time Password ("OTP") as a safety measure to safeguard the designated online transactions performed by you via credit card. Please verify the transaction details in the SMS content, such as transaction amount and merchant name, before entering the "OTP" to complete the transaction. Never disclose your "OTP" to anyone and do not allow anyone to use your "OTP". If you have disclosed your personal information to suspicious third parties or "OTP" to anyone, please immediately contact our Customer Service Hotline at (852) 2818 0282 for investigation.
