What is e-Cheque?
e-Cheque is an electronic counterpart of a paper cheque and is a Portable Document Format (PDF) document. It shows all essential information such as cheque date, payee's name and cheque amount, etc. e-Cheque is a crossed cheque that can be signed, issued, delivered and presented online. It has the same legal status as paper cheque.
What types of currencies do e-Cheques support?
e-Cheques can be issued in Hong Kong dollar, US dollar and Renminbi payments.
Can I still use paper cheques after the launch of e-Cheques?
Yes. After the launch of e-Cheques, the existing service of paper cheques will not be affected. Customers can continue to issue the Bank's paper cheques or deposit paper cheques to the Bank's accounts.
Does your bank provide e-Cheques Issuance and Deposit Services?
In this stage, the Bank provides e-Cheques Deposit Services which allows customers to deposit e-Cheques and e-Cashier's Orders to the Bank's deposit accounts and credit card accounts after completing few simple steps of first-time registration through the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 provided by the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited.
Can I deposit e-Cheques through “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 provided by the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited or your bank's Personal Internet Banking or Corporate Internet Banking Services?
In this stage, customers can deposit e-Cheques through the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 provided by Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited to the Bank's deposit accounts and credit card accounts and no access to the bank's Personal Internet Banking or Corporate Internet Banking Services is required.
What is the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1?
The “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 is a platform provided by the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited. Registered customers can deposit e-Cheques and e-Cashier's Orders to the Bank's deposit accounts and credit card accounts through this service.

The use of the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 is free of charge.
What are the service hours of the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1?
You can present e-Cheques through the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 all year round except 01:00am to 05:00am every Sunday and during ad-hoc system maintenance period. Please refer to the “Notice” of the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 for the latest announcement of the system maintenance schedule.
Can I access the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 from overseas?
Yes. If you can access the Internet with the required operating systems and browsers, you will be able to use the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 anywhere from overseas.
Can I print out an e-Cheque and present it to your bank as paper cheque?
The printed e-Cheque will not be treated as paper cheque and cannot be presented to the Bank's accounts. Customers can deposit e-Cheques and e-Cashier's Orders to the Bank's deposit accounts and credit card accounts after completing few simple steps of first-time registration through the “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1 provided by Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited.
Can I scan a paper cheque and present it to your bank as e-Cheque?
The scanned paper cheque will not be treated as e-Cheque and cannot be presented to the Bank through any electronic channel (e.g. “e-Cheque Drop Box Service”1).
