Personal Accident Insurance Plan

The Personal Accident Insurance Plan offers multiple protections, including accidental death or total permanent disability, medical expenses and hospital cash allowance. With our three tailor-made options – the Diamond Plan, Platinum Plan and Gold Plan – our Personal Accident Insurance Plan is easy to apply, taking care of the different needs of our clients.

Product Highlights

  • Double Indemnity for Death
    In the event of the Insured Person sustaining fatal injury in Hong Kong due to robbery, shootout between police and robbers, shark attack, or being a fare-paying passenger in a public common carrier or in a private car, the indemnity payable will be doubled.
  • Precise Definition of Permanent Disability
    Permanent Disability is defined precisely in the plan, which facilitates the claims handling and reduces arguments, thus protecting our client's interest.
  • Accidental Medical Expenses Protection
    The plan offers a maximum payment of HK$20,000 for Accidental Medical Expenses including inpatient and outpatient treatments.
  • Hospital Cash Allowance
    In addition to Accidental Medical Expenses Protection, the plan offers a maximum Hospital Cash Allowance of HK$50,000, making the total medical expenses cover a maximum of HK$70,000.
  • 24-hour Worldwide Emergency Assistance
    Round-the-clock worldwide emergency assistance includes hospital deposit guarantee arrangements, transportation of medical services and medical supplies to the scene, and emergency medical evacuation or repatriation, etc.
  • Extensive Coverage for Various Activities
    The plan covers sport activities such as skiing, scuba diving, water-skiing, rafting, yachting, rock-climbing, bungee-jumping, horseback riding, etc.* The Insured Person will be indemnified if he/she sustains injury, death or permanent disability when attending such activities. Medical expenses and hospital cash allowance will also be provided.

* This excludes the Insured Person participating in sports in a professional capacity or in return for remuneration.

Remarks:

  1. The occupation class is for reference only. If a client cannot ascertain his/her occupation class, please make enquiry to us.
  2. Age limit is from 6 months to 64 years old (both inclusive).
  3. Insured Persons under the age of 17 can only apply for the Gold Plan.

Major Exclusions

  • Travel or residing outside Hong Kong contrary to the advice of a medical practitioner;
  • Engaging in any armed force;
  • Engaging in a sport or race in a professional capacity or where you would or could earn income or remuneration from engaging in such sport;
  • Parachuting, ballooning, hang-gliding and flying other than as a fare-paying passenger in a licensed aircraft;
  • Suicide or intentional self-inflicted injury;
  • Injury as a result of insanity or the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • Any kind of sickness or disease;
  • Incident caused by pregnancy, childbirth, or miscarriage;
  • Diseases arising from HIV and/or AIDS;
  • Incident as a result of war;
  • Ionizing radiation from nuclear fuel.

Excesses

No excesses are applied to the SCB Personal Accident Insurance Plan.

Q&A

The Personal Accident Insurance Plan indemnifies the Insured Person for bodily injury and death resulting from an "accident". What is the definition of an "accident"?

"Accident" is defined as a sudden and unforeseen event that happens unexpectedly and causes bodily injury or death to the Insured Person.

Can I choose plan benefits for death and permanent disability benefits that are more than HK$1,000,000?

Yes. The Diamond plan offers HK$1,000,000 for death and permanent disability benefits. If a client would like to increase the plan limit, please call us for arrangements.

Is there any age limit under the SCB Personal Accident Insurance Plan?

Yes. The Insured Person must be at the age between 6 months and 64 years. An Insured Person under the age of 17 can only apply for the Gold Plan.

What is the premium if the client fails to ascertain his/her occupation class?

If the client is not sure of his/her occupation class, please contact us for a quotation.

Is the Insured Person entitled to a double indemnity benefit if he/she sustains a fatal injury from a traffic accident when driving a private car?

No. Double Indemnity is offered to the Insured Person who is a passenger inside a private car but not the driver.

Tips for Filing a Claim

Please note the following and submit the required supporting documents when filing a claim:

  1. Personal accident
    • Complete and return the Claim Form as soon as possible with details of the incident and extent of the injury
    • Provide the original medical report and receipts showing the patient's name and date of consultation, expenses and diagnosis
    • Provide the police report or other reports issued by the authorities
  2. Medical expenses
    • Complete and return the Claim Form as soon as possible with details of the incident and extent of the injury
    • Provide the original medical report and receipts showing the patient's name and date of consultation, expenses and diagnosis
  3. Loss/damage to personal effects
    • Complete and return the Claim Form as soon as possible with details of the incident and loss
    • Provide the original purchase receipts for the lost/damaged items, if available
    • Provide photos showing the damaged items, if available
    • Keep the damaged items for Insurer's inspection if the situation allows

Note:

  7. In case of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of the above information, the English version shall prevail.
